MADHAVAN was born in the family of Alathur
Mana,
Wadakanchery,
Thrissur - Kerala - Son of late Smt. Kali Antharjanam and Shri. A D Nambudiripad.
Madhavan did his graduation from the University of Kerala and Post- graduation
from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata. He served SAIL for nearly half
of his official career and rest half with KSIDC and retired from their service
as General Manager.
Madhavan
nursed deep interest in music right from his childhood and has
chosen to writing on Music as his post-retirement avocation. He is the editor of Samakalika
Sangeetham, a bilingual (English and Malayalam) journal
exclusively for Indian music.
Madhavan's Six books have been published between 2000-2009 by well-known publishers in Kerala and they were acclaimed as best-sellers. The first, Core Of Karnatic Music E-Book (2010) is an anthology of 404 famous krithis of 33 well known Composers of South India (See 12 Sample Krithis) with Text of the Krithis in Devanagari, English and Malayalam & their Meaning in English & Malayalam. The second Sangithasasthramritham, (2005) is a comprehensive book in Malayalam on Karnataka Sangitha Sasthra. The third book titled as ChupkeChupke Rath Din, (2007) is an anthology of 101 famous Urdu Ghazals of 20 eternal traditional composers (See 6 Sample Ghazals), sung by Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Sing and others, with both the Lyrics of the Ghazal and its Meaning in Malayalam. The fourth, Ravindranatha Tagore-Moonu Visrutha Prema Kavyanngal is the Malayalam translations of the Poet's famous Romantic Works, Viz ‘Chitra’ (Drama), ‘Chaturadhyay’ (Novel), ‘Gardener’ (85 Love Poems). The fifth, Karnatakasamgeethamalika (2007) is an anthology in 501 famous krithis of 51 Composers of South India, with both the Text and the Meaning in Malayalam. The Sixth Hindustanisangeetam (2009) is a comprehensive book in Malayalam on Hindustani Sangitha Sasthra.
Madhavans Family consists
of his wife and
daughter. Wife
Radha Madhavan a member of the renowned 'Venmani' family
of poets, is a post-graduate in Mathematics. She is also a Malayalam
poet and has written two books, first one titled as 'Vasanacheppu',
a collection of her poems and second one written along with Dr.
Sudha Gopalakrishnan, titled as Kaikottikkalippattukal.
Daughter
Lavanya
Ranjeet, is a Post-graduate in Science and a serving
official in a central public sector organization. She is also
a performing artist in Kathakali, having keen interest in Karnatic
Music and Mohiniattam.
